Principal's Message

Term 2 is almost finished and we have had a very busy and successful first semester. Some of the celebrations and opportunities so far this year include year 7 camp, Music camp, senior Performing Arts night, Battle of the Bands, Cattle club, Peppertree restaurant, university experiences, lots of district and peninsular sporting events, cross country, athletics carnival, year 6 transition days, Careers Expo, ILT/ILF camp, ATSIP, Young Performers and many other activities. At the same time students have the opportunity at ISC to study a wide range of subjects and semester one report cards will be sent home early in term 3. Please take the opportunity to discuss these reports with your child and if you wish to discuss your child’s results, please feel free to contact the school.
Our new four classroom block will be finished and ready for the start of term 3. Work has just begun on the roof, toilet block and car park for the outside basketball court. The air conditioning upgrade continues over the holidays in C block with both Y and A block now completely upgraded.
ISC is a great school, our academic results confirm this but so does the wide array of opportunities both academically and culturally available to your child.
Have a safe and happy mid-year break.
Tanya Martin
Principal

Athletics Carnival
As always, the biggest day on the school’s sporting calendar was a huge success. It was great to see so many students in their house colours participating and competing in various events throughout the day. A massive thank you to all our incredible students and staff who brought their energy and enthusiasm - and a special shoutout to Mr Goatham and team for organising the entire event so flawlessly! The day was packed with fierce competition, tons of fun with students stepping up and giving it their all.
In the end, it was the mighty Fitzroy who claimed this year’s title as House Champions. Congratulations go to Monique Liddle and Demi Zanoletti, who led their House to glory and well done to all of our Age Champions.
What a fantastic day for our school community. Until next year!

Our thanks to our First Responders
Wednesday 11th June is the day set aside to acknowledge the bravery, devotion to duty and selflessness of our frontline workers – Ambulance, SES, Police, Fire, Surf Lifesavers, Doctors and Nurses. Each year ISC hosts a morning tea and invites representatives from these groups to come and enjoy a wonderful feast beautifully prepared by our hard-working Hospitality staff and students and generously funded by Innisfail Coles. Our college leaders delivered an address and presented Certificates of Appreciation to each of the representatives. A lovely time was had by all. Pictured below – the feast enjoyed by the staff, student council members and first responders. College Captain, Sebastian Vang and Fitzroy House Captain, Monique Liddle with representatives from the Qld Fire Service Innisfail Branch.

Biggest Morning Tea
On Wednesday, 22 May, we held our annual Biggest Morning Tea event to raise money for the Cancer Council. The funds raised go towards research and supporting those people who are suffering from cancer and their families. This year we raised over $550.
Over 50 staff members attended and we had the fun of voting on the entries by staff in the Bake-off with Best Sweet and Best Savoury sections.
Our congratulations go to our winners for 2025:-
Best Sweet – Cindy Saunders
Best Savoury – Coby Page
We also ran two $80 boards, with the lucky winners being Lynn Gardiner and Rosemary Moyle.
Thanks must go to the amazing Hospitality staff and students for their contribution to this very worthwhile fund-raising activity.

High Flying Fun
This term our Year 10 Physics students took their learning to new heights — literally! As part of their unit on forces and motion, students designed and launched bottle rockets to explore how changing the volume of water affects rocket height. With plenty of scientific curiosity, they recorded data and made predictions, all while enjoying some hands-on, high-flying fun. A fantastic way to see physics in action.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Rewards System
Our PBL rewards system is about to change. Previously students were recognised for doing the right thing by their teachers and given a TAG card. This card was then put into a box and drawn out on Year level parades. Now we are moving to a points system where students will receive points for doing the right thing or for going above and beyond. As the points build up, your child will be able to access our PBL shop to purchase with their points a wide variety of things e.g. K-Mart vouchers, Fishing lures, Iceblocks, Handballs and Tuckshop vouchers. The students can also purchase non-physical items such as - Pick the Bell song, sit in the teacher's chair, express tuckshop ticket, first to leave the class for a week and they can even purchase a chair at parade for a term.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Term Focus
For the last fortnight of the term, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus is about teaching students a variety of strategies to regulate their emotions. This sits under our “We are Safe” pillar. Teachers will be talking to students about which strategies they could use and when they may need support. Junior and Senior Services have many adults whom students may like to visit if they need to access support (please see the photos below).

House Spirit Cup Term 2
The ISC House Spirit Cup is all about re-invigorating house spirit in the school. House Spirit Cup events scheduled during lunch times have proven successful again in term 2 with many students participating and receiving points for their house. Students can earn points by getting involved, displaying effort and demonstrating true school spirit.
Reminder that coloured house shirts are available for purchase online and at the uniform shop. Coloured house shirts can be worn every Monday to school and forms part of our uniform.
You can earn points by:
Taking part in house events
Maintaining 90% or higher attendance
Demonstrating excellent effort
Receiving excellent behaviour on report cards (semester)
Achieving an A in academic results (semester)
Being recognised for acts of kindness
Wearing your house shirt every Monday

Battle of the Bands
On Thursday, 29 May, seven acts took part in ISC's Battle of the Bands. Performances ranged from solo acoustic acts to thrash metal bands, all of them working hard to produce multi-song setlists. A huge congratulations to all the acts for lifting the calibre and quality of performances this year. This year's judges included Ms Berry, Ms Curzon, Ms Darveniza and Mr Burton. Thank you for volunteering your time and expertise.
At the end of the night, there could only be one winner and this went to Exhale. Exhale members include Year 7 students Max Martinez and Jon Roach, as well as ex-ISC student and cousin to one of the band members, Ayden Marsh. They rocked the house with covers of Silverchair, Nirvana and even an original metal tune.
The ISC student council kindly donated funds toward a prize for the winners of this year's event - each member of the winning act received a $50 gift card to spend at Buzz Music in Cairns.
Lastly, a big thank you to everyone who attended. Keep supporting live music!
We hope to see you at next year's event.

Queensland Regional Ensemble Program - QREP
Oscar Van Haaren participated in the recent Queensland Regional Ensemble Program (QREP) FNQ, held at St Augustine's College. This event, which was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music at CQ University and St Augustine's College, aimed to provide young musicians with an enriching and immersive experience in jazz and contemporary ensemble performance. Over the course of the weekend, participants took part in a series of activities designed to enhance their musical skills and foster collaboration. They were mentored by a team of distinguished music educators, with special thanks to the members of the 1 RAR Band. Oscar performed 3 pieces in a small group of 9 people including several RAR members.
Congratulations to Oscar for representing Innisfail State College at this event and playing so well!

Sketch to Shirt Design Workshop
This week a group of our Year 10 Indigenous students had the exciting opportunity to take part in the “Sketch to Shirt” Design Workshop held at the Innisfail Library. This engaging workshop was facilitated by MAMU Health Services Innisfail and focused on digital design skills.
Students explored the process of creating original T-shirt designs using innovative digital technology. They then had the chance to see their creations brought to life with their designs printed onto actual garments.
This valuable program not only encouraged creativity but also introduced students to potential career pathways and entrepreneurial opportunities in digital design and fashion.
We thank MAMU Health Services for providing such an exciting experience.

Peppertree Restaurant
Certificate II in Cookery students recently participated in a highly successful Peppertree Restaurant function at ISC. This function gave students the opportunity to showcase their hospitality skills and knowledge and gain valuable real-world experience. Students spent the day preparing food and setting up the Restaurant for 80 guests, returning in the evening for service. Students worked hard, both individually and as a team, showing initiative and maturity, to produce high quality food and service.
Congratulations for a job well done to all Certificate II in Cookery Peppertree Restaurant participants.

School-Based Apprenticeship Sign-Ups
We are thrilled to announce that more of our students are taking proactive steps toward their future careers through school-based apprenticeships.
This term, Ashton Stepanoff has successfully signed up for a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (MEM31922C) with Sundown Engineering. Ashton is pictured below during his sign-up meeting with Sundown's manager, Brady Topper, marking the beginning of an exciting journey into the world of engineering and metal fabrication.
We also congratulate Kayne Simpson, who has secured a school-based apprenticeship in Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology with Cavs Marine and Outdoors in Tully. This opportunity will allow Kayne to gain hands-on experience in the marine industry while completing his senior studies. Kayne is pictured below with Sonia Cavallaro, owner of Cavs Marine and Outdoors at his sign-up.
We are incredibly proud of Ashton and Kayne for taking this important step and wish them all the best in their apprenticeships. These opportunities are valuable pathways that help bridge school and employment, setting our students up for success in their chosen trades. Well done, boys!
Innisfail State College sincerely thanks our local employers for their commitment to nurturing the next generation of tradespeople. Your ongoing support of our Work Experience and School-based Traineeship/Apprenticeship Programmes plays a vital role in preparing our students for life beyond school. Without your involvement, these invaluable career preparation opportunities would not be possible.

Good Quick Tukka Program – Cooking Up Skills for Life!
We're excited to share highlights from our Year 9 Good Quick Tukka Program – a hands-on initiative designed to teach students how to prepare and cook healthy meals, while building valuable life skills along the way. This great program was run by MAMU Health Innisfail and Miss Dempsey for 8 weeks during Term 2.
Throughout the program, students learned practical cooking techniques and nutrition knowledge, which they are encouraged to take home and share with their families and friends. It's all about building confidence in the kitchen and promoting healthy living in our wider community. A huge thank you to MAMU Health for the support and opportunity.
