ISC Academic Excellence Showcase Awards Ceremonies 2024
The 2024 ISC Excellence Showcase Awards will be presented as follows:
• Tuesday 12th November 12:00pm (Week 7): Junior Secondary Academic Excellence Showcase Awards will be held at ISC for students in years 7, 8 and 9. Due to seating limitations, ISC families will be able to view the ceremony via YouTube live streaming only.
• Wednesday 13th November 6:00pm (Week 7): Senior Secondary Academic Excellence Showcase Awards will be held at The Shire Hall for eligible students in years 10,11 and 12. ISC families are invited to attend the awards.
Over the coming weeks, students will be invited to attend both ceremonies and families will be notified of those students who have been awarded special awards and bursaries. We look forward to celebrating with you the achievements of over 500 of our students and recognising their dedication to and perseverance in their studies. If you have any questions regarding this year’s ISC Academic Excellence Showcase Awards, please contact Mrs Sally Hammett on sgham0@eq.edu.au or on 4078 0222.
Japanese Speaking Competition
Congratulations to Emmalee, Sarina and Bailey, who recently represented Innisfail State College at the Tablelands Japanese Speaking Competition. Students were selected by their Japanese teachers for showing outstanding effort and dedication to their Japanese studies throughout the year.
This is the first year ISC has entered students in the competition, which is hosted by Malanda State High. The competition saw over 90 students from across FNQ come together to celebrate their Japanese speaking abilities. Ms Thorpe, ISC Japanese teacher, was present and could not be more proud of how these three students represented our College. “All three showed appropriate Japanese respect to the esteemed judges, spoke confidently and clearly and had a great time at the event.”
Emmalee, Sarina and Bailey have set a high precedent, which we look forward to meeting again next year.

House Spirit Cup Champions 2024
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication our students have shown throughout the year in all our house spirit events. Their energy, teamwork, and commitment have made every event a celebration of our school spirit.
Congratulations to Hinchinbrook for earning the most points and taking home the overall prize — an outstanding achievement! We look forward to more opportunities to celebrate the success of our students together.

Mental Health Awareness Week
ISC celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week from Monday 7th October to Friday 11th October. The theme for this year is Connect for Mental Health and students participated in a number of activities throughout the week such as morning walks, learning to crochet, goal kicking, frisbee, sewing and “Funky Sock Day,” all to promote an awareness of the importance of mental health.

LIVIN Challenge
ISC staff member, Mr Shane Rossi is raising money for the charity LIVIN this Christmas holidays.
LIVIN exists to create a future where suicide is no longer the number one killer of young Australians. Shane's plan is simple - Innisfail to Townsville in 6 days, all on foot, leaving Christmas Eve 2024. Where he would usually overindulge on Christmas day, he has decided he would do something to give back to people that need support. Just him, a bit of head noise and the Bruce Highway! Thank you to all the people that have already donated to this great cause, and all the beautiful words of support he has already received. Shane set a target of raising $1000 and has already passed the $1500 mark. Quite remarkable! If you would like to donate to this cause, please click on the link below.

University Centre Open Day
Cassowary Coast University Centre welcomed the community to visit their open day. Located above the Library in Rankin Street, the CCUC includes computer facilities, high-speed internet and a range of academic and wellbeing supports to foster student success. The centre allows students to live locally whilst studying. For more information contact 40916411 or ccuc@vpginc.com.au

Year 9 Camp

Student Resource Scheme - SRS
Innisfail State College offers a Student Resource Scheme (SRS) to all students. The scheme has the approval of the school’s Parents & Citizens Association and provides parents with the following general benefits:
- minimises costs of providing resource materials for their children;
- ensures that an adequate bank of resources is available to provide a good quality education; and
- ensures all students have equal opportunity to participate in any subject regardless of family financial circumstances.
The participation fee for the Student Resource Scheme in 2025 is $135. Every effort has been made to contain the cost of the participation fee whilst ensuring that adequate resources are available for student use. This contribution is in addition to the Government Resource Allowance. The scheme represents excellent value and provides substantial savings to parents of students in all year levels. Joining the Student Resource Scheme is optional. It attracts many benefits which are detailed here for your information. If you do not join the scheme, you will need to purchase individual resources as required and pay for all the benefits listed that will be received by members of the scheme. (For example the average cost of a textbook is currently approximately $55 with some costing over $95 each.) The college encourages your participation in the scheme, as the best savings for all eventuate from high participation rates.
The SRS at this college operates under the policy and guidelines of Education Queensland. Parents wishing to take advantage of the services provided by the scheme are required to pay the annual contribution fee and sign a Participation Agreement Form agreeing to the conditions therein. Please see the links below for more information about the SRS for each year level.
