Year 12 Formal Celebrations
From the Principal

Welcome to the last newsletter of Term 3 and what a term it has been. Students have won prizes at the local show, gone to camp, participated in musicals, Challenge Games, Circus Skills, Field trips, Culinary Challenges, RU OK days and Year 12 Formal. Year 10s have completed their SET plans in preparation for Senior in 2025. Year 12s will start their exams early this week and before we know it, they will have graduated. Many of these activities are highlighted on our social media page and website. I hope you enjoy them.
Have a safe holiday and we will see students back for Term 4 on Monday 30 September.

Principal
Behind each Blue Tree lies a story
Blue Tree Project was founded with a mission to help spark important conversations and encourage people to speak up when experiencing mental health concerns. We believe help is never as far away as it feels.
Blue trees dotted across every continent of the world (except Antarctica) are both beacons of hope and conversation starters.
Something that began out of tragedy now offers a positive way for people to connect and help change the way we view and talk about mental health. I would encourage you to visit the tree and read the plaque.
Thank you to our wonderful Facilities Officer Mr Shane Brook for getting this tree ready for installation and for our R U OK day coming up on 12 September and to Mr Mark Sinton for the concreting.

ISC Excellence Showcase - Bursary Nominations
Innisfail State College Excellence Showcase ceremonies recognise the outstanding achievements of our students in academic, vocational, cultural or community endeavours. As we prepare for this year’s events, we are excited to announce that our bursary nominations are now open.
Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by parents/guardians or ISC staff members. All nominations require teacher endorsement. Nomination forms are available from both Junior and Senior Services and can be found on our ISC website or click the link below.
Nominations are due by 3pm Friday 4th October 2024 and must be submitted to Mrs Kyrene Howarth at Senior Secondary Services or by email to khowa128@eq.edu.au
If you have any questions regarding the bursary nomination process, please contact Mrs Sally Hammett on 4078 0222 or email sgham0@eq.edu.au

Senior Schooling - Teacher Collaborative Planning Time (TCPT)
This year Innisfail State College has trialled Year 10-12s finishing school at 1.30pm each Wednesday. This has allowed students the option to stay at school to attend tutorials and catch-up assessment or to leave to participate in work experience or traineeships.
This extra time, (referred to as TCPT) Teacher Collaborative Planning Time, has allowed teachers to work collaboratively on developing curriculum, quality assuring assessment and improving teaching strategies.
This program now needs to be reviewed. You have the opportunity to comment on the TCPT.
If you wish to do so a link has been provided below for parents and guardians or alternatively you can scan the bar code below.

Business Liaison Association Career Expo - Cairns
The Business Liaison Association organised its 23rd Cairns Careers Expo for the students of Far North Queensland. Students in Year 10 and 11 made the most of the many stalls and industry experts, including Cairns and Hinterland Health Services, several universities, Queensland Ambulance Service, QBuild, Ergon Energy, Tropical Reef Shipyards, Rio Tinto and Cairns Manufacturing Hub, to name a few. A very popular stall was the Screen Queensland area, where special effects make-up artists were giving students an insight into what happens behind-the-scenes. Have a good look at the photos.
Many thanks to the P & C who funded the bus travel.

Vietnam Veterans' Day
Our school leaders, Maddie, Alice, Caiden and Eliza, were honoured to represent the college and lay a wreath at the Vietnam Veterans’ Day Long Tan Commemoration which was held at the Cenotaph on Sunday, 18 August.
It was a moving ceremony which brought home to all present the long-lasting and devastating effects of war.

Music Students - State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP)
A number of students represented ISC at State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) in Cairns from Friday 2 August to Sunday 4 August, 2024. This program is run by Griffith University’s Qld Conservatorium of Music. SHEP is a highly selective program with students from 26 other schools across the Far North Region participating.
Students worked hard over the weekend workshopping and intensively learning their music before presenting a concert on Sunday. Having chatted with many of the students after the weekend of music-making many said that their favourite part was catching up with friends from other schools, meeting and working with new people including guest conductors and playing some very different but exciting music.
Congratulations to all ISC Music students involved. Keep up the great work!

HMAS Canberra Warship Visit
Recently, ISC Year 12 students Romona Ramsey-Tanner, Jude Constantine and Aaron Ambrum along with Ms Sandra Tanner from Services Australia, were invited to attend a tour on the HMAS Canberra Warship that was docked in Cairns for a few days.
Students were able to have a personal tour of the internal workings of the vessel and speak with serving members of the Australian Royal Navy about different career choices in the ADF including Engineering, Communications, Cyber, IT & Intelligence, Aviation, and Leadership.
What a fantastic experience for our ISC students.

FNQ Futsal Titles
Recently, ISC students participated in the FNQ School Futsal Titles at Redlynch. The U16s were focused all day on their games and eventually made the grand final, unfortunately losing out to a strong Saints side. Congratulations to Mr Pringle and the boys for finishing runners up!
The U18s had some mixed results but ultimately made the qualifying final against Saints. The game was tightly contested and finished 4-4 before extra time. Unfortunately, the boys lost in the penalty shootouts, however they showed great teamwork and dedication throughout the day.
Thank you to Mr Goatham and Mr Pringle for your continued support.

School Musical - All Shook Up
We are thrilled to announce that our recent musical, "All Shook Up," was an outstanding success! With approximately 45 students participating, ranging from cast members and musicians to backstage crew and sound and lighting technicians, the production was truly a team effort. The event drew an impressive crowd of over 900 community members over 4 shows, all of whom were treated to a fantastic performance. The rave reviews we received are a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. A huge shoutout goes to our Arts Department staff, who brought their vision to life, and ITD department for their crucial role in building the sets. A shout out also to the staff who volunteered backstage and with ushering on the night and those local community members who volunteered in the band. Your efforts and dedication made this musical a memorable experience for all. As we celebrate this achievement, we’re already looking forward to our next musical production, scheduled for 2026. Congratulations once again to all the students and staff for your incredible dedication and talent!

R U OK? Day

A conversation truly can change a life 💛
People who are regularly asked R U OK? feel more supported, connected, cared about and better about themselves and their situation.
While R U OK Day is a National Day of Action, you're encouraged to check in with your mates, family and colleagues any day of the year, because a conversation could change a life.
For more information about R U OK? Day, visit their website by clicking on the link button below.
As part of R U OK? Day our ISC staff and students enjoyed a bacon and egg muffin breakfast and a chat together this morning.
