Principal's Message

It has been a busy term 3. The school underwent a full school review in week 5. This review process occurs every four years. External reviewers who are past and present principals spend time in the school interviewing a broad cross-section of staff, students, parents and community members to determine how the school is going. In a few weeks the school will receive a report outlining what we are doing well and areas in need of improvement. We will send home an Executive summary of these findings. The Leadership team in the school will use this information to form the basis of our future planning. I am looking forward to having an independent group of professionals review our work and provide us with feedback. This process will make sure we always strive to improve our school and outcomes for our students.
Tanya Martin,
Principal
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our NAIDOC Week celebrations so special this year. It was a fantastic week filled with community spirit, culture, and connection.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the following people and organisations for their incredible support:

Mr Jason Savo & Mr Justin Walker – we appreciate your presence and contribution to the event.
Creative Events Innisfail – thank you for your generous donations that helped bring our celebrations to life.
Ken & Erin – your help with setting up for morning tea was greatly appreciated.
Elisha Barba – thank you for the delicious food platters that everyone enjoyed!
Leon Hallie from the Innisfail Leprechauns – your support means so much.
ILT Students & Mentors – you were amazing and showed such pride and commitment.
Lisa Sue San & Stacey Kneubuhler – thank you both for your wonderful contributions and ongoing support.
Mr Ian Willmett (ISC CEC) – a massive thank you for your dedication throughout the entire week. Your efforts were invaluable and deeply appreciated.
NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect, honour and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievements — and with your help, we did just that. Thank you all for helping make it so meaningful.

Reader's Cup Challenge
On Wednesday 11th June, Ethan, Kirrily, Ruby and Noah represented our school in the annual Far North Queensland Reader's Cup. In preparation for this highly competitive event, the students dedicated many lunchtime sessions with Mrs Maley to closely analyse the five selected novels.
The competition required participants to demonstrate detailed knowledge of each text, with ten rapid-fire questions per novel and only 30 seconds to respond to each. Our team approached the challenge with enthusiasm and focus, fully immersing themselves in the experience.
Although they did not take home the trophy this time, the students had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to next year’s competition.
Congratulations to Ethan, Kirrily, Ruby and Noah on their outstanding effort and teamwork!

Japanese Host Students
Over the last 2 weeks, we have hosted 30 Japanese students from Kousen High School. We buddied them up with students from Years 9, 10 and 11 during this period. I could not be prouder of our students as I watched them care for our visitors with such consideration. The experience offered our students an insight into another culture, as well as providing them the opportunity to show off their Australian/Innisfail culture.
A massive thank you to staff and administration who made this work, as well as to the families who hosted Japanese students during this time.

Challenge Games
Innisfail State College and the Diverse Learning Centre students proudly competed and participated in another successful Challenge Games in Townsville last month. Our team shared wonderful experiences and made life-long friendships with students from all over North Queensland.

Queensland Theatre's Program - The Scene Project
On Friday 8th August, the Drama Troupe proudly represented ISC in Queensland Theatre’s program – The Scene Project.
The Scene Project is an annual program where schools work with a brand-new script, collaborate with industry artists and present their own interpretation at an outcome performance alongside other schools.
Miss Gilder is so proud of the way our ISC troupe brought the script to life with energy, creativity and teamwork. It was such a joy to watch their hard work shine on stage!

Students Shine at JCU Winter School
Four students recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the James Cook University (JCU) Winter School, a week-long academic enrichment program designed to give high school students a taste of university life. Representing our school with pride were Reyne Savage, Amelliah Strickland, Dakoda Masina and Acacia Savage.
Held in Townsville, the Winter School brought together students from across the region to participate in hands-on workshops, lectures and campus experiences in their chosen fields of interest.
A special congratulations goes to Dakoda Masina, who was awarded a medallion for her outstanding aptitude in her study area: Social Work. This is a significant achievement and a testament to Dakoda’s dedication and natural ability to connect with others.
All four students returned inspired and motivated, with a clearer vision of their future pathways and the possibilities that lie ahead in higher education.
Well done Reyne, Amelliah, Dakoda and Acacia—you’ve represented our school with excellence.

Sport News
FNQ Senior Volleyball School Cup
Towards the start of this term, ISC took a team to the FNQ Senior Volleyball Schools Cup at Smithfield. The girls started the day with two convincing 2-0 wins, before losing to eventual winners Cairns SHS in the third game. In our fourth game of the day, it was neck and neck against Smithfield SHS, with our girls needing to score one point to win before the time limit expired. Unfortunately, it was not to be and we found ourselves in the 5 v 6 playoff. In another tight affair against Redlynch SC, we were down 14-9 in the third set, when captain Jara showed incredible belief and composure to go on a 7-point serving streak to win us the game.
This feat is extremely special and commendable due to our team only having three senior students on the day. Shoutout to our year 11s Jara, Ella and Hana for showing great leadership and encouragement to our junior girls - Faith, Tefana, Beverley and Lydia. These girls showed courage beyond their years and stepped up to the task of competing against girls far more experienced than them.
Well done team!

FNQ Karyn Murphy Cup Rugby League
Some of our students in Year 10, 11 & 12 have recently experienced some great success in their rugby league endeavours. Our girls travelled to Cairns at the end of Term 2 to play in the FNQ Karyn Murphy Cup Gala Day and went undefeated – winning a spot in the Northern Quad Series in Townsville. Our girls had the opportunity to play against schools from Central Queensland, Townsville and Mackay and showed great school spirit – playing the last day of the carnival with only eight healthy players and coming away with a win.
While in Townsville the girls also had the opportunity to watch the Cowboys NRL & NRLW sides train - a fantastic experience for our girls and one we will be looking to replicate in 2026.
Special mention goes to Jordana, Skye, Lily and Reef in Year 12 who showed great leadership to our younger and less- experienced girls in the side and stepped up when needed most to help us come away with a win on our final day with only eight players.
